Independent school, worcester
Buckingham Pools has recently completed an exciting new project at The King’s School, Worcester, located in the heart of Worcestershire. This prestigious institution, known for its commitment to academic excellence and holistic development, now boasts a state-of-the-art indoor swimming pool. This facility marks a significant milestone in the school’s infrastructure, providing students with an exceptional space for both recreational and competitive swimming. The project has been executed in collaboration with renowned partners, including Speller Metcalfe for construction and Squires and Brown Architects, who ensured the design met the highest standards of functionality and aesthetics.
The new indoor swimming pool is a 25m x 12.5m facility with a varying depth ranging from 1m – 3m. It features a comprehensive plant room equipment package, designed to ensure both efficiency and sustainability in operation. The system includes three circulation pumps, a flow meter, and three high-performance pool filters. These elements are essential for maintaining optimal water quality and ensuring a smooth and consistent experience for users. The pool has been designed to maintain a water temperature of 30°C, offering a comfortable environment for all activities.
A key highlight of the project is the incorporation of advanced water treatment systems, including a chemical dosing unit and UV filtration system. These systems ensure that the pool water meets the highest standards of hygiene and safety, with precise control over pH levels and disinfection. Additionally, the pool’s energy-efficient heating system is facilitated by a Bowman shell and heat exchanger, contributing to the sustainability of the facility and reducing its operational costs.
Richard Barker, the Estates Manager at King’s Worcester was delighted with the outcome: “Buckingham Pools have done a fantastic job in transforming our swimming pool from a tired and struggling facility to a sleek, modern sports centre that will benefit the school and wider community for years to come. Water clarity and high TDS levels were a massive problem before the works, thankfully this is now a thing of the past. The water is crystal clear, ensuring a first-class bather experience. Buckingham’s team have been extremely helpful, responsive and supportive throughout the refurbishment and first few weeks of operation – huge thanks to Dan Harrop and the team!”
This new addition to The King’s School has a significant impact on both the student body and the wider community. Not only does it provide a modern, well-equipped space for the school’s swimming programs, but it also serves as a key resource for local competitions, training sessions, and community events. Buckingham Pools is proud to have contributed to this project, enhancing the school’s facilities and ensuring the long-term success of its sports and wellness programs.
